Sea + Sky: A Simon Heron exhibition
Please join us at this exhibition of underwater and ocean inspired paintings and photography by Simon ‘The Frogman’ Heron.
Simon has had a camera stuck to his face for most of his life. His first subjects were surfing and the sea birds of Jersey, mostly taken with his dad’s old Voigtländer camera.
His parents, realising he’d never be a quantum physicist, encouraged his creative path studying fine art under the tutelage of Fredric Sands RI at De La Salle College, who helped him win the Société Jersiaise, Barreau Art Scholarship to study Graphic design and illustration at Southampton Solent University.
His commercial photographic work has appeared nationally and internationally primarily through the directorship of his Southampton based design consultancy.
Simon’s artistic focus echoes his many interests and the unexpected and serendipitous. Being abundantly active, his work has covered many cultures and extreme environments; but boardroom Dandies and corporate video documentaries he finds just as fascinating.
He comparatively recently dived in to the fascinating world of underwater photography and last year was proud to have Underwater Photographer of the Year ‘Highly Commended’ under his belt, this was a huge thrill for him as the world’s best compete from over 60 countries.
His reengagement with expressionist painting is also an area he is really enjoying, the Visceral act of putting paint on canvas a real return to his roots from the digital workflow of his professional career.
The opening night of the exhibition, sponsored by SystemLabs, will take place on Friday 26th April, 6pm – 8pm.
