Running for Frubbs
Running for Frubbs returns for 2026 supporting 2 local charities.
The popular 10 mile memorial run will take place on Sunday 29 th November 2026, bringing the Jersey running community together to remember Frank MacFarlane and help raise funds for Headway Jersey and Jersey Stroke Support.
The race was established by Frank’s close friend Harry McAlinden as a tribute to him. What began as a way of honouring a dear friend has grown into an annual fixture for Jersey’s running community, keeping Frank’s memory alive while supporting people and families affected by brain injury and stroke.
Harry continues to lead the event, which is now in its ninth year, with the support of Paul Burrows of Trail Monkey Jersey and a dedicated team of volunteers. All funds raised will be split equally between Headway Jersey and Jersey Stroke Support.
Both charities have a meaningful connection to Frank, who was a member of Headway Jersey himself and also suffered a stroke, making the work of both charities particularly close to the heart of the event.
Remembering Frank ‘Frubbs’ MacFarlane
Originally from Dumbarton, Frank moved to Jersey and spent many years working in hospitality. After being diagnosed with a brain tumour and spending time in hospital, he joined Headway Jersey, where he benefited greatly from the support it gives people living with brain injury.
A passionate music fan, Frank loved The Rolling Stones and The Who, and would often bring his CDs into the Headway Jersey day centre to play during arts and crafts sessions, helping to create a lively, welcoming atmosphere for fellow members.
Frank sadly passed away in July 2017. He is fondly remembered by all who knew him for his warmth, friendship and love of life, and the race keeps that spirit going while supporting Islanders and families affected by brain injury and stroke.
