‘Running for Frubbs’ 10 mile race

Headway Jersey is thrilled to announce the return of the annual Running for Frubbs 10 Mile Race, with registration now officially open for the event, which will take place on Sunday 24th November 2024.

This year marks the 7th year of the race, held in memory of Frank MacFarlane, a Headway Jersey member and much loved figure who sadly passed away in 2017.

Frank MacFarlane, affectionately known as ‘Frubb’ suffered a brain tumour and became a part of the Headway Jersey community following his brain tumour diagnosis. His close friend, Headway Jersey Ambassador Harry McAlinden, has been instrumental in organising the race each year, celebrating Frank’s memory while raising essential funds to support those affected by brain injury in Jersey. This year the run will take place just one day before what would have been Frank’s 66 th birthday.

How the event supports Headway Jersey

All proceeds from the Running for Frubbs race will stay on island and directly benefit Headway Jersey, a local charity that provides vital services to individuals living with a brain injury, as well as their families and carers.

Sarah Le Page, Fundraising & Marketing Manager at Headway Jersey said: “We are privileged to continue the Running for Frubbs 10 Mile Race for the 7th year, as it has become a much anticipated event in the local running community. Frank was a dear friend to many and this race is a fantastic way of honouring his memory. The funds raised help us provide vital support to people affected by brain injuries, but it’s about so much more than fundraising. This race shines a light on the stories of our members and is an opportunity to celebrate their strength and resilience.

“This year, we’re excited to have involved one of our current members, Robert, who has put his creativity into designing the artwork for our event t-shirt. Involving our members in these events is incredibly important to us, as they are the reason we exist and do the work we do. Their stories and participation not only help raise awareness about brain injury but also strengthens community ties and shared experiences.”
