Regulation in Jersey – do we get the balance right?
Is Jersey regulated in a way that protects all Islanders? What happens when regulation goes too far and what are the implications when regulation doesn’t go far enough?
The Jersey Care Commission, Jersey Financial Services Commission and Digital Jersey are joining forces next month to host a panel event discussing the role of regulation on the island.
The event titled ‘Regulation in Jersey – do we get the balance right?’ will discuss the changing role of regulation, as well the impact of regulation going too far, as well as not far enough.
Alex Ruddy, Chair of the IoD Jersey Branch is chairing the event and will lead the discussion, which will feature expert panel members Becky Sherrington, Chief Inspector of the Jersey Care Commission, Jill Britton, Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission and Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey.
Speaking about the event, Chief Inspector of the Jersey Care Commission, Becky Sherrington commented: “We are collectively looking forward to hosting the first event of this kind in Jersey. Regulation is necessary for protecting islanders as well as supporting regulated organisations to flourish, but we also understand it can often be perceived as a barrier. Our objective is to provide a balanced view of the purpose and benefits of regulation in Jersey and to create a platform for discussion of this topic for members of the Jersey community.”
