Redesigning enterprise through doughnut economics

Join us on a Journey of Pioneering Enterprise Redesign with Erinch Sahan.

We are delighted to invite you to an enlightening workshop by Erinch Sahan, Business and Enterprise Lead of the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL), where he will delve into the transformative concept of Doughnut Economics. This pioneering approach offers a new compass for human prosperity in the 21st century, guiding us towards a future where the needs of all people are met within the means of our living planet.

About Doughnut Economics

Doughnut Economics is built around two concentric rings: the social foundation and the ecological ceiling. The social foundation ensures that no one falls short on life’s essentials, while the ecological ceiling safeguards against overshooting planetary boundaries that protect Earth’s life-supporting systems. The space between these boundaries is the doughnut-shaped zone where humanity can thrive, in a way that is both ecologically safe and socially just.

This approach challenges the traditional goal of endless GDP growth, advocating instead for thriving within the Doughnut. It emphasises the need to recognise that the economy is embedded within society and the living world. Doughnut Economics encourages cooperative and caring human behaviours, calls for regenerating degenerative economies, and promotes distributive economies that are fair and inclusive.

Implications for Purposeful Business

Erinch will explore how businesses can transform to fit within this doughnut-shaped space, focusing on five key layers of deep design: Purpose, Networks, Governance, Ownership, and Finance. These layers influence strategic decisions and operational impacts, determining whether businesses can support a regenerative and distributive future.

  • Purpose: Shifting the focus from extracting value to generating benefits.
  • Networks: Fostering collaborative and supportive business ecosystems.
  • Governance: Implementing new models that prioritise social and ecological goals.
  • Ownership: Exploring structures like Steward Ownership to maintain focus on sustainable objectives.
  • Finance: Redefining success beyond short-term growth metrics.
