Raising Board and Director awareness of IT cyber resilience
The Institute of Directors (IoD) Jersey Digital Sub-Committee invites senior executives, board members, and business leaders to a unique breakfast event focusing on the critical issue of Information Security and Cyber Resilience.
With the ever-growing threat of cyber-attacks and IT incidents, this event provides an opportunity to gain valuable insights directly from the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) about how to effectively manage cyber incidents and strengthen organisational resilience.
During the two-hour session, participants will hear from two of the JFSC’s Executive Directors, who will share first-hand experiences in how they managed the events of this year. The speakers will offer practical lessons and dispel the common myth that the response to such incidents is the IT department’s responsibility – and how it’s always a significant, whole organisation effort.
Attendees will gain practical insights through first-hand experience of the organisation-wide impact a serious IT system issue can have, and what steps are needed to mitigate risk and take proactive action on how the JFSC handled significant cyber challenges, along with key lessons learned from these experiences.
The event will include a panel discussion featuring representatives from both the JFSC and the Jersey Cyber Security Centre (JCSC), led by Ian Webb, Chair of the IoD Jersey Digital Sub-Committee. The session will emphasise the importance of recognising cyber threats as not just technical inconveniences – but strategic risks that should be prioritised by boards and senior executives.
The event seeks to raise awareness across Jersey about the serious and business-impacting nature of cyber risks. It aims to act as a catalyst for boards and executives to recognise and address their own vulnerabilities in the face of growing cyber threats. The importance of implementing strong incident response and business continuity plans will be emphasised, while also promoting a culture of transparency and openness in the discussion and management of cyber risks across the island.
Ian Webb, Chair of the IoD Jersey Digital Sub-Committee said: “In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, strong cyber resilience and preparedness is not just an IT issue—it’s a boardroom priority. This event offers a unique opportunity for Jersey’s business leaders to learn first-hand from the JFSC’s experiences and strengthen their own organisations against cyber threats. Ensuring robust cyber risk management is critical for safeguarding not just individual companies, but the wider business community on the island.”
