Purpose – a Wellbeing Economies Film
Is GDP the wrong tool for measuring what matters?
As economic challenges mount and global uncertainties persist, could it be time to redefine success and build a future that prioritises quality of life over economic growth and endless consumption?
On 31 March, Islanders are invited to a special screening of Purpose – A Wellbeing Economies Film, a documentary that reimagines the economy as a system designed to serve people and the planet—not just GDP.
A Wellbeing Economy: What is it and why does it matter?
A wellbeing economy is an economy designed to serve people and the planet, not the other way around. Rather than treating economic growth as an end in and of itself and pursuing it at all costs, a Wellbeing Economy puts our human and planetary needs at the centre of its activities, ensuring that these needs are all equally met, by default (Wellbeing Economy Alliance). Governments from countries such as Scotland, New Zealand, and Finland are part of a partnership of national and regional governments interested in sharing expertise and transferrable policy practices to advance their shared ambition of building Wellbeing Economies.
About the film
Purpose – A Wellbeing Economies Film explores the urgent need for a shift in economic thinking.
Through storytelling and real-world examples, the documentary highlights communities and individuals working to create a more just and sustainable future. The film challenges conventional economic narratives and invites viewers to consider alternative models that serve society as a whole.
