Premier League and Women’s Super League trophies visit Guernsey
Football fans in Guernsey will have a rare chance to see two of the sport’s most recognisable prizes as the Premier League and Barclays Women’s Super League trophies visit the island for a special two day programme of events.
On Friday 29 May, the trophies will be on display at the Barclays branch from 10:00am, offering the public a chance to view them up close.
The visit continues on Saturday 30 May at Victoria Park, where the trophies will feature as part of a free youth six a side football tournament running from 9:30am to 4:00pm. Club teams from across the island will take part, with families and supporters invited to attend.
Bringing together both men’s and women’s elite competitions, the visit highlights the global reach of top level football and aims to inspire young players locally.
Justine Gaudion, Guernsey Country Head of Local Markets, Barclays Bank PLC, said: “Barclays has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with the Premier League and Women’s Super League, and we’re delighted to be bringing football’s most coveted silverware to Guernsey. We hope the visit will inspire a new generation of young islanders to enjoy the many benefits of football, and we look forward to delivering this once-in-a-lifetime experience for the local community.”
Rob Jones, Director at Victoria Park, said: “This landmark event promises to be a highlight of Guernsey’s sporting calendar, and we’re thrilled to be supporting Barclays, one of our founding partners, in delivering this fantastic initiative. As the home of Guernsey football, we can’t wait to host Saturday’s tournament while providing a unique chance for fans of all ages to grab their own small slice of football history.”
