Pop-up exhibition: Joseph Evans and Minna Pemberton

ArtHouse Jersey is pleased to announce the latest in their Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series, a vibrant programme designed to showcase the talent of local artists for a short ‘pop up’ time period at the historic Grève de Lecq Barracks studios.

This upcoming exhibition on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July features work by sculptor Joseph Evans and multi-disciplinary artist Minna Pemberton. Open from 10am to 5pm on both days, visitors are invited to meet the artists, learn more about their craft and enjoy their work in a unique exhibition space.

Joseph Evans is a blacksmith with over seventeen years of experience. His sculptures are an evolution of ideas and processes learned in that time, inspired by day to day tinkering and creating. He intends to show the malleability of steel and its formable nature. In this exhibition he will be presenting a series of sculptural faces forged from steel bar which are then nailed into wood and bent into the structure of the head, cheek bones and chin.

“I am humbled to have the opportunity to show a few of my pieces at one of my first ever exhibitions. Sculpting has always been a part of my life and profession but never really got much further than the work bench or a dusty corner… unless it has been a new pair of gates or supporting the creation of a fresh set of puffins at Plémont!

“Thanks to ArtHouse Jersey and Collins for the support and procurement of the show and thanks to Stephen Rylance at architectural iron works for the use of his workshop”

Minna Pemberton’s work focuses on the human form and surreal themes, expressed through drawing and intaglio printmaking. Minna was awarded an ArtHouse Jersey Development Grant in 2025 to take part in the Drawing Intensive course at The Royal Drawing School in London and where she explored printmaking, life drawing and narrative illustration, accumulating a large amount of new work. In this exhibition she will be presenting her ‘Feeling Eye’ collection with original drawings and print editions available to buy.

“The Grève de Lecq Barracks are such an amazing setting and I feel very lucky to be sharing this space with Joseph and his metal-work sculptures. In my work I am inspired by the physical applications of drawing, which is why I am so drawn to printmaking. Tactility with metal is such an integral aspect to my etching process and Joseph and I similarly explore figurative elements in our practices. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the two-dimensionality of my prints and the three-dimensionality of sculpture complement each other”.

Lynsey Downey, Group Sales & Marketing Executive at Collins said: “We are delighted to continue our support of local creativity through the Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series. Seeing the incredible contrast between Joseph’s metalwork and Minna’s intricate, surreal illustrations highlights the diversity of artistic talent in Jersey.

“This is a wonderful platform for the community to experience local art, and we can’t wait for everyone to see this latest showcase.”
