Our landscapes, past present and future

Our coast, a landscape that has withstood the test of time, now faces its greatest challenge yet: surviving the impact of human apathy and environmental mismanagement.

Aaron Le Couteur from The Reserve explains how from ancient cultivation to innovative regenerative agriculture, the journey of our land reflects a deeper quest for sustainability. As ecosystems teeter on the brink of significant change, the push towards sustainable food systems and biodiversity conservation becomes not just beneficial but essential. He tells us what can be done to mend the bond between humanity and nature.

Duration: 1.30 hours long. Difficulty: Moderate.

Meet at Batterie Moltke car park, off Route de l’Ouest and sign posted. Bus 8. Wear sensible footwear as you’ll be walking over rocky surfaces. Please leave your dog at home.

Aaron Le Couteur, founder of The Reserve, champions transformative conservation efforts in Jersey. With a background in both farming and conservation, his work has crucially bridged sustainable land management with biodiversity enhancement, in particular on the north coast of Jersey. By introducing the Manx Loaghtan sheep to the Island, Aaron has played an important role in habitat restoration, leveraging their grazing to naturally manage and rehabilitate the land.
