My Jersey: An exhibition by Julie Croft
The word photography derives from Greek roots ‘photo’ meaning ‘light’ and ‘graphy’ meaning ‘drawing’. Photography means drawing with light.
Julie Croft explains: “I use the natural light to capture the beauty of ‘my’ Jersey, creating natural images that pull the viewer into the landscape. Views we have looked at a hundred times before can be given a new lease of life if viewed from a slightly different angle in a different light.
“I feel most at peace when out in nature, even on the dullest of days a split-second break in the cloud can set the scene to capture that breathtaking moment in time. A solitary ray of light, a white cloud passing overhead, the sun flickering through the leaf of a fern or a splash from the incoming tide, all unique moments never to be repeated.
“The images I have chosen for this exhibition show the beauty I see in Jersey, from the rainbow caves to our beautiful Jersey cows, all captured in that never to be repeated moment in time.”
