Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, is hosting its annual Trusts Forum in Jersey and Guernsey on 24th and 26th May respectively featuring a keynote talk from Tim Shipman, Chief Political Commentator of the Sunday Times.

Reporting from Westminster since 2001, Tim has covered six general elections, three referendums, three wars and countless leadership contests. He has also reported on four US elections.

Tim (pictured) is one of the most decorated political journalists of the last few years, with fourteen nominations for major awards, including ten in the last seven years at the British Press Awards. Known as the newspaper industry’s Oscars, he was named their “Political Reporter of the Year” and “Political Commentator of the Year” in 2018.

“Recent events have shown how quickly the global landscape can change. With Tim’s expertise and experience he’ll provide some useful insights into the economic environment, and the upcoming challenges to be prepared for that will certainly be of interest to the local business community,” said Edward Devenport, Partner and International Practice Group Head at Mourant.

Mourant’s International Trusts and Private Client team will be joined at the Forum by industry experts from a range of firms: Butterfield, BDO, Saffery Champness, McDermott Will & Emery, Cazenove, Maurice Turnor Gardner, Macfarlanes, Stephenson Harwood, Wilberforce Chambers, Trust Corporation International, Forsters, Intertrust, Ten Old Square Chambers, Serle Court, Jersey Finance, JTC, Macfarlanes and RBC to provide an overview of recent developments within the industry, including the most significant judicial decisions and their potential implications.

Sessions will cover a range of subjects including recent cases concerning trusts, crypto and NFTs, ESG, legal and fiduciary issues, single family structures, financial sanctions, blessing applications and forthcoming challenges and opportunities for the private wealth sector.

The Jersey Forum is sponsored by BDO and the Guernsey Forum is sponsored by Butterfield and BDO. Stephen Alexander, Partner at Mourant, will chair the Jersey event and Paul Hodgson, Deputy Group Head of Trust at Butterfield, will chair the Guernsey event.
