Look! student exhibition
ArtHouse Jersey has announced LOOK! Student Exhibition running from Thursday 12 February to Sunday 1 March at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House, open 12pm to 6pm (closed Mondays).
The exhibition celebrates and documents the work created by over 260 Jersey schoolchildren as part of ArtHouse Jersey’s MAPS (Making Art in Partnership with Schools) project and will present a selection of prints, illustrations, sculptures, paintings, collages, textiles, ceramics and installation.
The artwork in LOOK! took inspiration from Claire Ormsby’s multidisciplinary exhibition, ‘Fallowfield’, and invited artists to work collaboratively with local schools to design and create a unique, cross curricular, project for students. The artists were able to share skills, knowledge and a passion for the visual arts in the classroom whilst working alongside teaching staff to deliver dynamic workshops. The work on display is a celebration of process, experimentation and creativity which are essential to spark joy, nurture enquiring minds and build lifelong learning skills.
The participating schools are St Mary’s School, Trinity School, Victoria College Preparatory School, FCJ School, St Michael’s School, Le Rocquier School, Mont a
L’Abbé Secondary School and Highland’s College School of Art.
Anna Shipley, ArtHouse Jersey Education Officer, said: “Working collaboratively with artists and teachers is powerful! Together we have reflected on the process of learning and teaching, shared expertise and then developed unique workshops for students. It is always delightful to witness how new combinations of skills, passion, creativity and a simple stimulus can generate such a range of rich learning opportunities for young people. We wholeheartedly encourage everyone in the Island to pop into ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House and enjoy the riot of creativity for Jersey’s young people”
