Launch of farmers and local produce market

Jersey is embracing local food in a whole new way with the debut of the Island’s first-ever Farmers and Local Produce Market taking place this weekend in The Royal Square.

Taking place Saturday 28th September and Sunday 29th September, from 12:00 to 16:00, this exciting new venture will coincide with the Corn Riots Festival, marking a historic moment for the Island’s community and local agriculture.

The market, supported by Farm Jersey, is a modern revival of Jersey’s timeless tradition of local markets, and it reflects the growing demand for access to local produce in a convenient, central location. It will offer Islanders the chance to buy directly from farmers and local producers, ensuring that fresh, healthy food is available to all while providing vital support to Jersey’s local economy.

Islanders are invited to come down to enjoy the best produce that Jersey has to offer, and join in the festivities. The market will feature fresh vegetables, and fruits plus much more – all sourced from Jersey’s own shores. Visitors can expect a variety of stalls from local suppliers including: Didier Hellio from Manor Farm, Justin Le Gresley from Anneville Farm, Charles Le Maistre from La Tâcheron, Matt Le Maistre from Master Farms, Nina Blake from Three Oak Vineries, Matt Taylor from Jersey Sea Salt, Allan McCaffrey from Happy Hens, Ollie Griggs from Lomah Farm, Neil Cotillard from The Smokey Shed, Mike Renouard from The Jersey Royal Company, Dougie Richardson from Richardson Jersey Royals, Kasper Wimberley from Scoop, and Alan Rabet from Beaulieu Farm.

Trudi Roscouet, Market Organiser, said: “The launch of the Farmers and Local Produce Market comes at a crucial time when there is a heightened interest in supporting local businesses and sustainability. By providing a dedicated space for farmers and producers to connect directly with the community, we hope to promote a sustainable food system that supports local livelihoods and encourages healthy eating habits. The market is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Jersey to get closer to where their food comes from. By supporting local farmers, we not only strengthen the local economy but also promote healthier, more sustainable food choices.”

She added: “The success of this farmers market depends on the continued support from the community. By attending this weekend and future events you are ensuring that fresh, local produce remains a regular fixture in Jersey’s central hub. Bring your family, meet our local farmers, and enjoy a healthier way of Jersey life.”
