Jay Morris Spinathon
You can now sign up to join in the last Jay Morris Spinathon fundraiser this February. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the annual event.
People are invited to spin for an hour slot at Club Carrefour, St Lawrence to raise funds in memory of Jay, a keen racing cyclist and founding member of the Velo Cycling Club, who died from cancer in 2003 at the age of 30.
It was first set up to raise awareness of Jay’s illness. He had planned to take part but died a few weeks before the event. Since then, Jay’s family have organised an annual Spinathon in tribute to Jay and as a fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care.
Jenny and Alan Morris, Jay’s parents, said: “We’d just like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. Special thanks go to Club Carrefour for hosting the event, Bettina – who has been with us from the start – and her instructors, Mark and Val Pickford for sponsoring us, Ann Huelin for providing us with her lovely homemade cakes every year, and everyone who has either participated or sponsored someone.
“An amazing amount has been raised in memory of Jay for Jersey Hospice Care. We thank you all and we couldn’t have done it without you.”
