Infrastructure – IoD December Breakfast
The IoD’s final breakfast seminar of the year will hear from the Guernsey Development Agency (GDA).
Peter Watson and Simon Kildahl from the GDA will give an overview of the work they have done since the GDA’s board was approved by the States of Guernsey earlier this year. The pair will also discuss what they hope to achieve in 2024.
The GDA is the coordinating authority for the integrated development and enhancement of the island’s east coast and has established that there are multiple opportunities to enhance the area around The Bridge.
In the IoD’s recent member survey, infrastructure investment was highlighted as a priority for the island in the short and long-term.
Glen Tonks, the IoD’s Guernsey Chair said: “One of the most significant problems with our public finances is the low level of investment – historical and projected – in public infrastructure and this will have long term implications.
“Whilst there are many unanswered questions around the island’s long-term financial sustainability, the last States debate did see an amendment directing the Policy & Resources Committee to investigate various opportunities to unlock new methods of funding. These could include public-private partnerships, blended finance, philanthropic and ESG bonds to encourage private market capital investment, and we look forward to discussing how these funding models could be deployed locally.“
