How to Have Difficult Conversations

Do you feel confident handling difficult conversations or do you fear doing or saying the wrong thing?

Most employment disputes don’t start with bad intent — they start with avoided or mishandled conversations.

If you’re uncomfortable having the conversation now, you’ll be even more uncomfortable dealing with the dispute later.

This practical session is for anyone with responsibility for people. Led by Lorna Pestana from Law at Work and grounded in real workplace scenarios, it cuts through the fear of saying the wrong thing and gives you the tools to act with confidence.

You’ll leave with a clear conversation framework, a pre-conversation checklist you can use the same day, and a stronger understanding of why getting it right early prevents costly disputes down the line.

Myths and common mistakes we’ll bust:

  • I don’t want to say the wrong thing, so I’ll say nothing
  • If I’m nice enough, it’ll resolve itself
  • HR or lawyers will fix it later if needed

Handled early and properly, difficult conversations prevent disputes. Avoided or mishandled, they create them.
