Help! They want to make me a director!
The role of director, its associated duties and responsibilities in this age of rapidly changing regulations has become challenging and it is no longer sufficient to bring just your current skill set to the board.
This talk is aimed at new directors, those who are about to be appointed to a board and those who have been directors for some time who are looking to refresh and update their knowledge and understanding of the role.
Our aim – to highlight the essential steps you need to take before you are appointed, whilst you are on the board and how, and more importantly when, to get off take a step back and review your appointment.
The transition to a directorial role often starts without a comprehensive understanding of the governance background information required to get up to speed on running the company.
Thanks to guest speaker Peter Cannell, we will be discussing the core set of information that any director needs to know when joining any board for the first time, including who to seek advice from. By getting to ‘know’ the board and the company, prospective directors will be in a better position to consent to their appointment, protect themselves and when there is no alternative, exit the board.
Key questions:
- What is a director?
- What does a director do?
- What doesn’t a director do?
- What do I need to do when I’m appointed and during my appointment?
- What do I need to do to stop being a director?
Refreshments will be available on arrival. Please note the presentation will start at 13:00 prompt. There will be an opportunity for Q&A following the presentation.
