Guernsey Mind Investec 10K Challenge [cancelled]
The annual Guernsey Mind Investec 10K Challenge will take place this Sunday, with over 250 enthusiastic runners already signed up to support the mental health charity, Guernsey Mind.
This year’s event focuses on the theme of ‘challenging yourself’, and the organisers are encouraging local runners of all abilities to participate. While the physical benefits of exercise, such as running, are well known, physical activity also serves as a natural mood booster and an effective way to alleviate stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and increase energy and focus.
“The 10K Challenge is one of our main events for us at Guernsey Mind,” said Amanda Hibbs of Guernsey Mind. “The event is not only one of our main fundrasiers, but also raises awareness about mental health and wellbeing. We all know exercise is beneficial for our bodies, but it is equally crucial for our minds.
“We are extremely grateful to Investec for supporting this event once again – they provide volunteers to help on the day as well as sponsoring the event which means that every penny raised goes towards supporting our work within the Bailiwick.”
The run will commence at 9am from KGV, and follows a route along Landes du Marche and Camp du Roi, before heading down Rue Sauvage and through the lanes to Houmet Lane. Participants will then turn left along the West Coast to Cobo, before heading back to KGV.
“The route will be well signposted and marshalled throughout, but we ask motorists to exercise caution on Sunday morning and to cheer on our runners as they pass,” added Amanda. “We are aiming for a fun, friendly atmosphere at the finish line, complete with Guernsey Dairy’s mobile unit which will be selling ice cream. We extend our thanks to KGV, St John, Guernsey Civil Protection, and CI Coop for their invaluable support.”
