Guernsey Electricity electric transport public event [Cancelled]

The present and future of sustainable, electric transport will be on display this weekend at a special event organised on Guernsey’s North Beach.

Guernsey Electricity is transforming part of the car park in town on Sunday 11 September to showcase some of the currently available electric transport options, including vehicles, bicycle conversions and charging points. The event will sit alongside the GSPCA’s Seafront Sunday and the company is inviting Islanders to meet local businesses working at the forefront of more sustainable travel.

Stuart Blondel, Chief Commercial Officer at Guernsey Electricity, said: “Electric cars and transport are a hot topic these days and I am sure many of us will have questions we would like answered before investing in these new technologies.

“There will be a range of electric vehicles and e-bike conversions on display on Sunday, along with experts present from a range of businesses. Our team from Guernsey Electricity will also be on hand to explain where our electricity comes from, public electric vehicle charging infrastructure and our plans for creating a cleaner future for the Island.”

Amongst the exhibits on view will be cars, vans, electric motorbikes, conversion kits for normal road cycles, an electric outboard motor for the nautically minded, along with demonstration charging stations. Attendees will be able to test drive some of the vehicles and test ride e-bike conversions.

Paul Moriarty, Guernsey Ebike Conversions, said: “The popularity of electric bikes has seen a huge increase over the past couple of years and with our conversion kits we can achieve the same results at a considerably lower cost than buying an electric bike.

“We will be bringing a number of converted bikes to the event which will be available to test ride and show the public how good the conversion kits are. We hope to see the public get involved and take advantage of this opportunity.”

Bob Snell of Freelance Motors, commented: “The technology in electric cars has moved on considerably and the event is a great opportunity for us to showcase our vehicles to the public and hopefully surprise them with what is available on the market.

“We will be offering test drives on the day and will also have a couple of cars on our stand to give people the chance to get a feel for the vehicle before they buy. It’s a great opportunity for us to and we are sure the event will generate plenty of interest.”
