Guernsey Book Fest

Twelve local authors and publishers will gather at La Vallette Bathing Pools on Sunday 1 November for Guernsey Book Fest, the island’s first book fair dedicated to local writers.

Organised by Guernsey Books, a group of island authors, the event runs from 10.30am to 1.30pm and gives readers the chance to browse and buy books, have copies signed, and meet the people who wrote them. It’s also a great place to pick up a special gift for loved ones who enjoy reading.

The line-up spans historical fiction, thrillers, fantasy, local history and children’s books. Taking part are Jill Bray, Raven Dubois, Steve Foote of Blue Ormer, Tom Gaisford, NK Harrison, Margaret Jones, Nick Le Huray, Rachel Le Mesurier, Martin Morgan of Extraordinary Editions, Jenny O’Brien, Tracey Thomson and RJ Verity.

Several authors will give short readings from their work during the morning.

Aspiring writers are welcome too. At the Writers’ Hub, visitors can pick up writing tips and find out about local groups, workshops and other opportunities for writers in Guernsey – including the Guernsey Literary Festival’s poetry and short story competitions.

Co-organiser Jenny O’Brien said: “Writing can be a solitary business, so it’s wonderful to bring so many local authors together under one roof. We’d love islanders to come along, meet us, and discover how many great books are being written right here in Guernsey.”

Co-organiser RJ Verity added: “We wanted to create a relaxed, friendly event where readers and writers can simply meet and talk about books. Whether you’re a keen reader or looking for a Christmas present with a local connection, we hope you’ll pop in on Sunday morning.”

Claire Allen, Director of the Guernsey Literary Festival, said: “We’re delighted to support the first Guernsey Book Fest. There’s so much talent in the island, and it’s wonderful to see more opportunities to celebrate local writing.
