Guernsey Air Display – Meet the pilots
The popular Meet the Pilots event, which gives aviation fans the chance to see some of the planes taking part in the Guernsey Air Display, is moving to a new location at the airport.
This year’s Meet the Pilots, which is being sponsored by Ravenscroft for a fifth year, will be held on Wednesday 7th September from 2pm to 5pm at its new location on the East Apron at Guernsey Airport.
“After some challenging years, we hope to be back with a strong line-up for Meet the Pilots this year,” said event organiser Gary Elson.
“It is always a great afternoon, and we know how much islanders love the opportunity to get up close to some of the stars of the display and meet the pilots lucky enough to fly them. We’re grateful to Ravenscroft and Guernsey Airport for their continued sponsorship which allows us to put the event on and ensure that all the donations at the event go to the Guernsey Air Display.”
Subject to any serviceability and weather issues, Meet the Pilots will welcome the Chinook helicopter, Team Raven, the Muscle Pitts, the welcome return of The Blades and the debut of an OV10 Bronco. In addition, the CIAS Islander, Junior JOEY and an airport fire truck, which are particularly popular with children, will also be there.
Entry to Meet the Pilots is by donation and parking will be available in fields at the eastern end of the runway, on La Villiaze road, which will be one way from the Specsavers end. Signage will be put out to direct people to the parking and marshals will ensure safe crossing into the airport perimeter.
“Meet the Pilots is a lovely afternoon for aviation fans of all ages and we had no hesitation in sponsoring it again as part of Ravenscroft’s support of the Guernsey Air Display, which is a highlight of the island’s event calendar. The team behind the display does a fantastic job in raising the funds, securing the planes and making it all happen. We always see hundreds of people coming along to Meet the Pilots but as this is the last day of the summer holidays, we think it will be even more popular this year and hopefully that will mean we can raise a record amount to help ensure that the Air Display continues for many years to come,” said Mark Bousfield, group Managing Director of Ravenscroft.
