‘Flux’ by Danny Evans: Exhibition of visuals fusing photography, film and technology
ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to announce Flux, an upcoming exhibition by Jersey photographer Danny Evans. Running for one week only between 17th and 25th January 2023 at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House, Flux is an exhibition of visuals created through photography, film and technology.
Evans has repeatedly re-edited and manipulated the imagery to reimagine a collection of wearable artworks created by Jersey and international designers from the Walking Gallery project commissioned by ArtHouse Jersey in 2021. Each of Evan’s images have evolved from the textures and colours of the designers’ original works.
The show’s opening will be celebrated on Tuesday 17th January between 5.30pm and 8pm with DJ sets from underground music collective The Loft. All are welcome to attend.
Danny Evans said: “Fashion and photography have always been linked. This project is an experiment in how a possible future of fashion and image-making might evolve. Technology changes what is possible daily, with designers and brands now releasing digital collections you can wear through augmented reality in the real world. Digital fashion generates 97% less CO2 emissions than the production of a physical garment, and so Flux is an attempt to further explore the concept of sustainability that was the starting point for the Walking Gallery. As the skills of haute couture and photography continue to inform and shape each other through the digital realm, Flux is a space to reflect and hopefully to inspire how fashion will be consumed and viewed in the digital age.”
The Walking Gallery project was part of ArtHouse Jersey’s ground-breaking Skipton Big Ideas exhibition at St Helier Town Church in 2021. Walking Gallery showcased bespoke wearable art creations by local and international designers and artists, exploring the themes of sustainability, identity and accessibility and resulted in choreographed runway shows to music. Danny Evans was commissioned to photograph the productions at the time, and was inspired to create an exhibition of his own with a fresh and unique take on the collection. Flux, just over one year later, is Evan’s stunning re-interpretation through photography, film and new technology of these original and inspiring works.
Danny Evans is a freelance commercial photographer. Having started out long before the age of the digital camera, Danny’s expertise is vast and as such, the work he produces has been widely sought after by local businesses and global brands alike.
ArtHouse Jersey’s Head of Programme, James Tyson, said: “At the start of the new year, ArtHouse Jersey was keen to revisit an extraordinary project from 2021 that saw a group of Jersey and international designers create an exceptional collection of new wearable artworks focusing on sustainability presented as a walking gallery live performance. After originally documenting all the designs, over the past year Danny Evans has continued to work on distilling and expanding these photographic images across video, augmented reality and onto large scale print formats, which we are delighted to be able to share for this short-run exhibition at our Capital House gallery.”
