Environmental Husting 2025: Meet the candidates, hear their vision
With the climate crisis looming large and environmental action more urgent than ever, Blue Marine Foundation is collaborating with local organisations and a group of independent volunteers to host a dedicated Eco Hustings event, ahead of the June 2025 Guernsey general election.
Set to take place at Les Beaucamps School on the 21st May from 5:30pm – 9:30pm (entry from 5:00 pm onwards), the hustings will offer voters a rare opportunity to hear directly from election candidates about their environmental and sustainability commitments. Equally as important, the husting will give an opportunity for election candidates to outline their priorities for Guernsey’s environment. From climate adaptation and biodiversity protection to energy policy and waste reduction, candidates will be asked to speak on the issues that matter most for Guernsey’s future.
One of the event organisers, Freddie Watson, Channel Island Project Manager for Blue Marine Foundation said: “Despite being a charity focused on the marine environment, we at Blue Marine recognise the importance of giving a voice to not only our seas, but also the land it surrounds. After all, land and sea are inextricably interlinked, and Guernsey’s dynamic marine and terrestrial environments deserve the attention of Guernsey’s future decision makers.”
“The island is at a critical juncture,” said La Société Guernesiaise. “We need leadership that treats the climate and ecological crises with the seriousness they demand. This event is about accountability—and about empowering voters to make informed, future-facing decisions when casting their votes.”
The event will consist of four sessions, each featuring up to eight candidates. In each session, candidates will deliver a two-minute statement outlining their environmental and sustainability objectives. This will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A segment, during which the audience will have the opportunity to ask candidates questions directly.
