Energy & Economy: Unlocking Guernsey’s offshore wind opportunity
Guernsey has excellent natural conditions for offshore wind and the island has been investigating its potential over the past decade.
Offshore wind is included in the island’s Electricity Strategy, which was approved in 2023. Acting on that strategy, the States of Guernsey offshore wind sub-committee is preparing the framework to deliver the island’s first wind farm and intends to debate and vote on the policy in the Assembly in early 2025.
It is important to build understanding and generate interest in offshore wind within the island, so that it is a familiar subject by the time the Assembly comes to debate it in the new year.
The objective of this breakfast event is to elevate offshore wind in the public discourse, by informing attendees of Guernsey’s opportunity, how it can be acted upon for local benefit, and enable open discussion.
The event is being organised by Dyna Energy (a locally based offshore wind project developer) and is generously co-sponsored by Appleby (one of the leading Guernsey law firms).
