Drop-in coffee morning: Information and tips on how to leave a legacy gift

As part of BCR Law’s ongoing commitment to supporting local charities, it is hosting free drop-in coffee mornings to mark Legacy Week 2024 in partnership with Les Amis. These informal sessions will provide information and tips on how to leave a legacy gift in a Will – an opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance and learn how such a gift can create lasting change.

Local charities play a critical role in supporting the well-being of our island, whether it’s providing care for vulnerable individuals, addressing mental health or offering other support services to the community. Without the generosity of legacy gifts, many of these charities risk being unable to continue their impactful work. By encouraging the community of Jersey, particularly younger people who tend to not have Wills in place, we can ensure these charities remain strong and able to support future generations.

David Benest, Managing Partner has noted: “Our firm has been proud to maintain a long-standing relationship with Les Amis, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Islanders with learning disabilities. Most recently, our conveyancing team — comprised of Michelle Leverington, Wendy Luce, and Anna Field — helped facilitate Les Amis’ acquisition of 13 apartments from Andium Homes. This property will serve as sheltered accommodation in the heart of town, providing ideal housing for individuals with learning disabilities.

“The coffee mornings we’re co-hosting with Les Amis are an opportunity for us to encourage all Islanders, especially younger people perhaps in their 30s to 50s, to arrange a Will sooner and consider how their future legacies can support causes that may touch their lives, those of their loved ones or causes close to their hearts.”

Lucy Marsh-Smith, Les Amis Trustee, remarked: “As recent events within the charity sector have shown, supporting charities is more vital than ever. Charities are being squeezed by the same pressures facing businesses and households. We are a generous island, and thanks to that generosity, charities can provide support to so many islanders, but they can only continue to do so if they are financially viable themselves. Leaving a legacy is an effective way of ensuring that a charity of your choice can carry on doing its work.”
