Democracy Week: Politics matters breakfast event
You’re invited to attend ‘Politics Matters’, a breakfast event hosted by Simon Jupp, MP for East Devon and former journalist for both BBC Radio Jersey and ITV Channel Television. Simon will be sharing his experiences of how his interest in politics began and what we can learn from this to encourage Islanders to engage with local politics. You can read more about Simon in his bio, attached below.
Research tells us that communities with high civic engagement are proven to be healthier, happier and more likely to use their knowledge, skills and voice to cultivate positive change. However, voter turnout in the 2022 election was 41.7%, the third lowest figure in the last 30 years and the lowest in the world according to OECD figures.
As part of our fourth annual Democracy Week, we want to bring local employers, business leaders and industry representatives together to celebrate democracy and discuss how workplaces can support and encourage their employees to engage with Jersey’s political system through the political cycle, including the lead-up to the 2026 election. We welcome professionals from all local industries, from financial, digital, and retail to tourism, hospitality, sport and agricultural – and everything in between!
If you have any questions about the event, please email here.
