Data safeguarding masterclass for small businesses event

Data safeguarding masterclass for small businesses

In this short lunchtime lecture, the Office of the Data Protection Authority’s deputy commissioner Rachel Masterton and senior investigator Edward Chapman will explain how to avoid common pitfalls when handling personal information.

With 83% of organisations reporting phishing attacks in 2021, data is highly desirable and great harm can be caused if it falls into the wrong hands. One person who knows this better than most is Joh Harvey, founder of the Raw Store, whose experience of being hacked will be used as a case study during the session, to highlight the real-life impact of data breaches. His powerful words and valuable insights reveal the indiscriminate and devastating nature of these types of random attacks on small business owners.

The speakers

  • Rachel Masterton, Bailiwick of Guernsey Deputy Data Protection Commissioner.
  • Edward Chapman, ODPA senior investigator
