Children’s cartoon club
The Harbour Gallery Jersey is hosting four sessions of a children’s cartoon club, with Jersey Evening Post cartoonist Thinus Slabber.
Each week the children will work to a different theme, possibly 2 weeks on characters of people and 2 weeks on animals.
Those children who take part all the 4 weeks will get a cartooning pack to take home.
A bit about Thinus (in his own words!):
I started drawing at a young age and continued throughout school and university, creating mostly cartoons and caricatures for local papers. I completed a degree in Visual Communication Design and later also in Strategic Brand Management. After University I worked as a graphic designer and later a Brand and Marketing Manager. In 2014 my wife and I moved to Jersey and I have been freelancing as a graphic designer, illustrator and cartoonist. Shortly after “freelancing” it I started to explore with oil paint and creating my own art, forging my path as an artist.
I paint mostly in oils, although I might make watercolour preparatory sketches. I set out to convey as best I can the striking, sometimes uncanny beauty of Jersey with its particular and special quality of light through landscape painting. I also do portrait paintings and in future hope to paint more people and prominent figures as well.
My style is sort-of impressionistic and slightly realistic. I try to find the unsaid emotion in a scene. A feeling that is conveyed visually when looking at a Jersey-based setting in particular.
