Castle Cornet opening weekend – HistoryFest
The first weekend of the new Castle season will be marked with a special 2-day event.
HistoryFest takes place on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th April at Castle Cornet.
Period bell tents will pop up at the Castle to bring to life different aspects of the Castle’s 800 years of history. Members of the Guernsey Military History Company will be on hand to help visitors of all ages discover the everyday life of soldiers garrisoned there. Living history shows from the Guernsey History in Action Company will also happen each day at 11.10, 12.10, 14.10 and 15.10. Click here to see their schedule. Live music will be provided throughout the weekend by wandering minstrels and a trio of musicians playing early music.
There will be guided tours daily at 10.30am.
There is plenty to keep families with children busy. The craft room is open all weekend and there will be a special trail of ‘Castle Characters’ for visitors young and young-at-heart to meet. Storytelling with staff from the Guille-Allès Library takes place on both days. The event team have a designated Quiet Space for the weekend (South Battery), where no events are planned.
Jo Dowding, Access & Learning Manager said:, “the first weekend always has a special celebratory feel. Whether you like to explore the four Museums, enjoy the views or take part in the extra activities, we hope there will be something for everyone”.
The Castle is open daily during HistoryFest 10.00-17.00 (activities end at 16.00). Entry is free with your Discovery Pass, otherwise normal Castle admission applies.
The event is in partnership with the Guernsey Military History Company, the Guernsey History in Action Company and Guille-Allès Library.
