An evening with… Brian Bilston
Jersey Festival of Words is thrilled to announce that celebrated poet Brian Bilston will take to the stage for An Evening With Brian Bilston, promising an hour of wit, wordplay and warmth on Wednesday 24th September at the Freedom Centre.
Dubbed the ‘Poet Laureate of Twitter’, Bilston shot to prominence nine years ago by sharing short, sharp, and often hilarious poems on social media, quickly amassing over 400,000 followers. His work, known for its clever structure and accessible humour, has since transcended the digital world with the release of three poetry collections and the critically acclaimed novel Diary of a Somebody, shortlisted for the Costa Book Award.
Often described as the ‘Banksy of the poetry world’ due to his mysterious public persona—he famously obscures his face with a book in photos—Bilston is as
enigmatic as he is entertaining. His live performances are renowned for their charm, poignancy and laugh-out-loud moments, consistently selling out venues across the UK.
“Brian Bilston proves that poetry isn’t dead,” said Festival Director Pippa Le Quesne, “it’s just hiding behind a book with a keen sense of humour. We’re thrilled
to bring his distinctive voice to Jersey.”
