Amplify 2024 – Battle of the Bands
Five local bands will go head-to-head at Amplify2024 – Battle of the Bands in Chambers this Friday, showcasing homegrown talent and fundraising for the local charity, in its work to provide lifeline and life-enhancing support to Islanders with learning disabilities.
The free, family-friendly event will be the crescendo of Learning Disability Awareness Week 2024 (17-21 June); this year’s theme being, ‘Do you see me?’. Event entry is free, and the public can show their support by donating on JustGiving and entering the event raffle, which has been contributed by Ogier, JT Community Giving and the Sure Community Foundation.
The Jersey Pop Group (pictured), 88Bunkface, the Getaway, O-Town and jims house (who won Jersey Music Associations’ 2023 Junior Battle of the Bands) will be battling it out for three trophies: ‘Best Fundraising Friends (BFFs)’ for the band that raises the most via their JustGiving page; the ‘Best Fit’ costume and look; and ‘Encore’, the band the crowd wants to see play again.
O-Town were especially formed for this event by Ogier colleagues and will perform a selection of Motown favourites. The event will be filmed by media students from Highlands College.
Yenni Kusumo, Les Amis’ Head of Charitable Income and Partnerships said: “We work hard to ensure that people with learning disabilities are seen, heard and valued and that’s what this week and Amplify2024 is all about. We are so grateful for the support of our corporate and community partners, including a Government of Jersey ConnectMe microgrant, and the musicians who will be performing on the night. Where else in Jersey can you watch on one stage bands that span rock, pop, Motown and metal?”
