Air Search Runway Run
The popular Air Search Runway Run will return on 2 September 2023, with the help of sponsor BDO Guernsey.
The well-established fun run will once again offer runners of every ability aged 16 and up the unique opportunity to run or jog 5k at night on the illuminated runway at Guernsey Airport, to raise valuable funds for Channel Islands Air Search, the Lifeboats’ eyes in the sky.
Whilst operated entirely by volunteers, the life-saving Search and Rescue service has annual operating costs of £225,000. The Run helps raise funds through participants’ entry fees, and those taking part can also boost their fundraising by inviting friends, family, and colleagues to sponsor them using the SportsGiving platform.
Richard Searle, Managing Director at BDO Guernsey, said: “We are thrilled to be able to lend our support once again to an organisation that helps so many people across our island community. The atmosphere at these events is always electric, and supporting the run through sponsorship, organising and helping out on the night aligns nicely with our purpose of helping people to succeed.”
David Hugo, of the Guernsey Friends of Air Search, said: “We are delighted to announce a third Air Search Runway Run, and look forward to welcoming those taking to the runway for the first time, as well as the many runners who have taken part every year. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Guernsey Airport, Guernsey Civil Protection, and Guernsey Aero Club and so many others for making this event possible – as well as to the team at BDO Guernsey, whose all-encompassing support of the event extends so far beyond just sponsorship.”
Exact timings of the run are to be confirmed, but registration is likely to begin around 8.30 p.m., with the Run starting around 10.30 p.m.
The Run is limited to a capacity of 500 and registration is now open!
Participants are required to bring official, up to date photographic identification on the night.
