Abundant Futures: Roots and remedies – Reimagining borders with Róisín Shaw

Join artist and community organiser Róisín Shaw with guest facilitator Siobhan Fogarty for a gentle evening gathering of conversation and making. Together we’ll explore how connection to the land – and to one another – can deepen our sense of belonging and shared humanity.

As we move into the darker months, you’ll learn how to create your own natural balm or salve using locally foraged plants. Guided by Róisín and Siobhan, you’ll discover the practical and symbolic roles herbs play in community healing traditions across cultures. Along the way, we’ll share stories, memories, and practices that remind us how the land can nourish and sustain us wherever we are.

This workshop is part of Abundant Futures, a long-term, socially engaged project by ArtHouse Jersey exploring food justice, migration, and belonging. It invites participants to connect with the idea that – like roots beneath the soil – we are all linked by shared needs for care, nourishment, and renewal.

You’ll leave with:

• A handmade balm or salve to take home, crafted from local plants
• A deeper understanding of herbal traditions and plant-based care
• New connections with others through shared stories and making
