2022 Runway Run supporting CI Air Search
On Saturday 24 September, Guernsey Airport is hosting the annual fun-run on its runway that will raise funds in support of search and rescue charity, Channel Islands Air Search.
The 2022 event is being organised by the Guernsey Friends of Air Search with support from sponsor BDO. Participants can enjoy a 5k run or jog around the airstrip and runners of all abilities from ages 16 and up are invited to take part.
Channel Islands Air Search requires £225,000 for its annual operating costs, so fundraising initiatives like the Runway Run are essential to supporting the service.
Stuart Phillips, Executive Director at BDO, said: “This is our second year working with CI Air Search to put on this truly unique opportunity to take to Guernsey Airport on foot – replacing jet power with the pitter-patter of trainers hitting the asphalt after the sun has gone down. Last year, over 360 runners took part, raising nearly £10,000 for CI Air Search which was a great achievement and one we’re really wanting to top this year.”
David Hugo, President of The Guernsey Friends of Air Search said: “The Friends are looking forward to welcoming Runway Runners old and new to take part in this unique, enjoyable experience. It is important that we support such a vital local charity which could potentially be called upon by anyone in the Channel Islands. We would like to thank Guernsey Airport, Guernsey Civil Protection, and the Guernsey Aero Club for their support in making the run a reality.
“We would like to give a special thanks to BDO Guernsey for making this event possible. We are immensely grateful for corporate sponsorship and the Runway Run would not be able to go ahead without it.”
Entry costs £25 per person, which includes a special edition t-shirt to be worn on the night. Runners are also encouraged to raise sponsorship, using the SportsGiving service.
As official photographic identification will be required on the night, participants should register with the name that appears on the relevant ID. Updates regarding the event will be posted on the dedicated ‘Air Search Runway Run’ Facebook page.
