28 new walks are featured in this year’s Autumn Walking Festival running from 11 – 26 September.
Now in it’s sixth year, the festival is organised by the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides with support from VisitGuernsey, and a wide range of interests and abilities are catered for.
One of the best ways to see scenic delights of Guernsey and its neighbouring islands is on foot, and this is the ideal festival to get out there and discover it all with a local expert. From peaceful strolls and challenging rambles to themed outing and family friendly options, you are sure to find a guided walk that is both enjoyable and memorable.
Some of the newly introduced walks include Occupation Heroes, a Family Reservoir tour and ‘Vraic and Ruin’ a scenic coastal stroll around L’Eree, headlining seaweed and reliving past times featuring many shipwrecks and folklore.
The new tours for 2021 also include ‘St Peter Port Airport!’, find out about the important part that aircraft have played in town life since 1917. There is also a chance to discover the secrets of Little Sark on a tour through areas not normally accessed by the public.
“The festival is perfect for visitors, but in a year when we have all been embracing the Staycation, for locals, it’s a great opportunity to re-discover parts of the Bailiwick, find new places that you might not have visited before or learn more about the history of the islands,” says Carla Bauer from the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides.
“Each walk starts close to a bus stop and parking area, and all are rated from an easy amble to a more testing hike. Through locally accredited Guides this is such a wonderful way to discover so much about the islands.”
Most walks are priced at just £10.00 per person. Full event listings can be found here or a free guide can be collected from the Guernsey Information Centre.
