Suicide has a devastating and unwelcome effect on Jersey’s community. The annual deaths from suicide have a tragic and cumulative impact upon the health and wellbeing of too many of our families, friends and colleagues. This is likely to continue and possibly increase due to the impact of the pandemic upon islanders’ health and the economy. It is important that the island unites to prevent further unnecessary deaths from suicide.
Suicide is a complex and at times misunderstood phenomenon which has no single or easy way to prevent. The evidence indicates that a wide range of community actions are required to help reduce the number of deaths. No one organisation or individual has all the answers.
You are invited to participate in an initial meeting of Jersey’s Suicide Prevention Alliance, to discuss how an alliance can be forged to prevent further deaths. The alliance will be a network through which knowledge and expertise can be shared, allowing the community to develop and implement actions in order to address the factors which increase the risk of suicidality.
Organisations and individuals are invited to join, contribute and help shape the way forward.
This event is run by the newly-formed Jersey Suicide Prevention Alliance.
