The Guernsey Branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) will be hosting a Career Inspiration Summit for students in December, supported by the Ana Leaf Foundation.

The event will provide insights and inspiration for local students, with entrepreneurs and industry professionals sharing their career journeys and experiences in business. Opening the session, IoD Chair John Clacy will look at the role Guernsey plays in the world and will encourage students to ‘think big’ about the career opportunities the island can offer now and in the future.

The event’s keynote speaker, sponsored by the Ana Leaf Foundation, is Tessa Clarke, award-winning entrepreneur and founder of Olio, a mobile app for food-sharing which aims to reduce food waste. She will discuss how to make your purpose pay and how to put your passion and purpose into a sustainable business.

Hayley de Putron, a trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation said: “We’re delighted to support the Career Inspiration summit. 2020 has been a particularly difficult year for students and the future landscape has shifted significantly. This is the perfect opportunity for students to hear from professionals in a variety of areas on how they can best equip themselves for their future careers, as well as be inspired as to how they can combine their personal interests with a career in business”.

With 2020 being such a significant year of change, Chris Gnapp from Leapfrog Recruitment will discuss how Covid-19 has affected the way we work and how this change could benefit students looking ahead to what skills will be required.

John Clacy said: “The IoD is passionate about supporting and inspiring young people as our potential directors of the future. If students can be inspired from the beginning of their careers there is a definite long-term benefit. We have put together a programme with a wide breadth of topics and fantastic speakers providing expert knowledge and real-life experiences”.

The summit is also supported by PraxisIFM who have invited Authentic Alex to discuss how to develop your personal brand and how to differentiate yourself from others. The event will conclude with a KPMG-sponsored careers panel, allowing students to hear from professionals on their personal career journeys.

Aimed at sixth form and university students, the summit takes place on Tuesday 15 December and is free to attend; you can find out more and register here.

Students who attend will be issued with an CPD e-certificate which can be used on their CVs, LinkedIn profiles and university or job applications.
