After the huge success of last year, Macmillan Jersey’s ‘Get Together for Good’ week is returning, once again with the support of JT.
Last year the event raised over £26,000 which was instrumental in ensuring local cancer support services could continue into 2021 – but this year with more opportunities to bring people together the Macmillan team are hoping islanders will come together to host further events and gatherings to support them.
The Get Together for Good week, running from 20th to 26th September, is all about hosting a fundraising event with the aim of spending time together and enjoying an event with friends, family and colleagues whilst raising vital funds. This year the sky’s the limit on the type of event people want to host during the week, ranging from the traditional Macmillan Jersey Greatest Coffee Morning to movie nights and pamper parties and everything in between.
Macmillan Jersey and JT have created an online event pack to provide islanders with some inspiration on how they can get involved. This year the charity will also be giving away some physical event packs for any organiser to collect from The Lounge at the Charity Book Café in Burrard Street with everything they will need from bunting to cupcake cases and donation forms.
Steph Gibaut, Head of Fundraising for Macmillan Jersey, said ‘’Like many local charities, we are recovering from what was a financially challenging year and with most of our events being cancelled again this year, we are asking Jersey’s wonderful local community to support us by hosting or attending a Get Together for Good event with friends, family and work colleagues. With restrictions lifting and more opportunities to meet face to face, we would love to have as many corporates, businesses, schools and individuals as possible joining us on this amazing week of fun.’’
As a local charity, Macmillan Jersey’s vision is that everybody affected by cancer in Jersey will have access to emotional, practical and wellbeing support, through their preferred route of contact. This support will be delivered in a way that meets peoples individual needs from diagnosis and beyond, and from whichever source is best placed. As the charity doesn’t receive any funding from Macmillan UK, they rely heavily on the continued support of the generous local public through events such as their Get Together for Good week.
Steph added: “We’d also like to thank JT for their continued support and help in making the week possible.”
Daragh McDermott, Managing Director, JT Channel Islands said: “We’ve been partnering with Macmillan Jersey for almost two years and in that time, we’ve learnt so much from this amazing team about the work they do and the people they help. In small communities such as ours, the chances are that most of us know someone affected by cancer. Without organisations like Macmillan providing physical, financial and emotional support, our friends and family would have a very different cancer journey.
“In 2020, we didn’t let Covid beat us, together we turned a traditional one-day fundraiser into a week of fun events, both online and in person where guidelines allowed. This gave islanders plenty of options to be part of Macmillan’s annual major event, and with restrictions lifting even further this year, I’m looking forward to seeing more of our community getting involved and really making a difference. The team at Macmillan do a wonderful job bringing people together and helping cancer patients live their lives to the fullest, and I hope as many people as possible will join in the week, have some fun and raise some money for an incredibly good cause.’’
