‘Peter’s there and bBack’ cycle ride is being held in memory of Help a Guernsey Child chairman, Peter Webber, who passed away last year.
The event will take place on Sunday 19 September and all proceeds will go to Help a Guernsey Child.
Three different flat routes of varying lengths – 5, 13 and 35 miles – all of which start and finish from The Guernsey Yacht Club will be available for those taking part and have been planned to encourage anyone of any age and ability to take part.
‘Peter’s There and Back’ organiser, Matt Collas, said: “Peter was a wonderful man with a huge and generous character and he is incredibly missed. Peter loved cycling with his son Oscar and this event seemed a fitting way to remember him. In his honour, we’ve planned the routes so they are all are flat as Peter didn’t like hills!”
Help a Guernsey Child was established on 12 January 2001 to raise funds for deserving children in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and this year reached the milestone of paying out over £1m in donations. Peter was chairman of the charity for 10 years and was involved with the charity for 19 of the 21 years the charity has been active for.
Chief Executive Officer at Cazenove Capital, Giles Neville, said: “Peter worked with us for three years, he was a passionate and kind-hearted character who gave so much of his time to local charities and causes, in addition to Help a Guernsey Child, the Scouts and Guernsey Rugby Academy to name a few. Sponsoring the ride in Peter’s memory is a tribute to a much-loved member of our team.”
Registration is free and event organisers have asked cyclists to raise sponsorship and be generous on the day with donations.
