Guernsey IoD’s June event will form part of We are Guernsey’s Sustainable Finance week, and will explore the topic of directors’ duties through the sustainability lens.
The webinar, sponsored by Butterfield, takes place on 11th June from 8am.
The session will be led by Sarah Barker, a Partner and Head of Climate and Sustainability Risk Governance at MinterEllison, Asia-Pacific’s largest commercial law firm. She will be joined by Ellie Mulholland, the London-based Director of the non-profit Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative and a Senior Associate in the climate risk governance team at MinterEllison.
They will set out how climate change has evolved from a purely ‘ethical’ or ‘environmental’ issue to have mainstream recognition as a material financial risk across physical, economic transition and litigation dimensions.
Regulatory and investor expectations on climate risk assessment and disclosure are accelerating globally. This poses both risks and opportunities that must be understood, assessed and actioned by directors to fulfil their fiduciary duties.
Sarah and Ellie will bring an international perspective to the discussion on climate risk governance and liability, drawing together global developments in the understanding of climate change as a matter of directors’ duties.
Fran Watson, Partner at Mourant, will discuss directors’ duties in the context of Guernsey’s company law.
Sally Rochester, the IoD Guernsey lead for Sustainability and the advisory lead for Deloitte in Guernsey will be outlining the steps directors should take, and the questions the board should be asking, to ensure they manage the risk and their liabilities appropriately.
A certificate of attendance will be available to all attendees who pre-book a ticket.
