Guernsey’s IoD July breakfast event is titled ‘Why intellectual property and intellectual capital are critical to building value in your business and developing the Guernsey economy’.
The IoD July breakfast event will feature Guernsey’s leading intellectual property (IP) expert, John Ogier, discussing how IP and the wider IC (intellectual capital) assets are a vital, but often overlooked, consideration for all businesses, large or small.
At the event, which takes place on 9th July, John will highlight the common mistakes business leaders make with IP and IC, how to quantify and value your intangible assets, the different legal routes that you can take to protect yourself along with your business and how these can be used to drive strategic innovation and investment.
Wendy Dorey, Chair of the IoD in Guernsey, said: ‘IP protection is hugely relevant for many businesses in Guernsey – especially as more and more business move up the skills curve and develop a greater proportion of intangible assets. John is an expert in this field and I look forward to welcoming him to share his expertise with Guernsey’s leaders.’
From 2006 to 2014, John Ogier served as Registrar of Intellectual Property in Guernsey and has continued to work in this area, becoming an IP economist and the Chairman of IPAN, the UK organisation for intellectual property.
John Ogier (pictured) said: ‘IP is a key strategic tool for every business – and can often be your most valuable asset. 30 years ago, the average FTSE-listed firm was made up of 80% tangible assets and 20% intangible assets. Now, the reverse is true – which means it is vital to know how to value, protect and develop such a precious, core asset. I’m looking forward to presenting at the event and highlighting the key considerations all directors need to take into account.’
As well as helping attendees understand IP, John will highlight the importance of successful IP management with real-life case studies and highlight the role that knowledge-based capital can play in developing the Guernsey economy.
The breakfast on 9th July starts at 7.45am with a light breakfast in the Colborne Room at the OGH, with the event concluding at 9.00am.
A certificate of attendance will be available to all attendees who pre-book a ticket. You can book tickets to the event here. Tickets cost between £15 and £20.
