Butterfield, the offshore bank and trust company, has donated office furniture in support of Edible Guernsey, a local charity working to encourage sustainable and self-sufficient food production.

The furniture has enabled the charity to expand its educational space and provides a pathway for more people in the community to learn about growing produce. Edible Guernsey’s mission is to reinvigorate the island’s food landscape by being a source for education and nurturing innovative growing on island.

The charity has three main touchpoints with the public: a community garden, volunteering, and education, all of which present opportunities to learn more about diversifying the economy, and involve teaching the community and future generations about sustainable produce. Edible Guernsey also hosts events to assist the future entrepreneurs of Guernsey and Elizabeth College students who have space to run their horticultural club.

Richard Saunders, Butterfield’s Managing Director, Channel Islands, said: “Butterfield is a huge believer in supporting the communities in which it operates, and one of our core values is to foster individual initiative and success. Edible Guernsey is providing knowledge, training and experiences that enables the community, young and old, to learn new skills and play a part in a more sustainable future. We were very happy to help support their efforts.”

Guy Hendry, Treasurer of Edible Guernsey, said: “The furniture is in great condition and significantly helps us to provide an opportunity for the community to learn about what goes into growing produce. The educational space we’re building has massively benefitted from the donation of tables as it means we can now train 30 people at one time.”
