Last month Duff & Phelps invited Jersey financial services industry members to a seminar to explore the body language of leaders.
The event, presented by leading voice over artist and speech coach, Susie Ashfield, was attended by over 100 people across the finance industry and covered topics such as the impact of a good handshake, meeting room body language and how to identify dominant (and not so dominant) body language.
To illustrate these points, Susie invited the audience to analyse the unique body language of current and historical politicians and celebrities, which led to active and enthusiastic audience participation.
Commenting on the event, Malin Nilsson, Managing Director of Duff & Phelps in the Channel Islands, said:
“Body language is an often overlooked feature of how we communicate and it is an important element of leadership, especially in terms of understanding each other, “reading the room” and being cognizant of how other individuals may perceive us. While technical insights and knowledge is vital in the finance industry, soft skills such as body language and how we present ourselves are perhaps equally, if not more important. The variety of attendees and participation in the event from different functions and levels of seniority in firms demonstrates that this is a topic relevant to everyone”.
