Working in conjunction with ESI Monitor Ltd, ATF will offset vehicle emissions when purchasing fuel, by supporting environmental conservation and restoration projects in Jersey, as well as contributing to accredited international carbon offset projects.
Jonathan Best, Director of ATF Fuels, said: “As a conscientious fuel supplier, we understand the challenges that face road users to help achieve a lower carbon future. We believe it is necessary to give our customers the choice to offset the impact of the emissions created from their fuel usage. We believe this scheme provides an affordable alternative for Jersey motorists.
“This new initiative provides customers the ability to ‘Drive Carbon Neutral’, assists the States of Jersey achieving its vision of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and a proportion of funds are invested into local environmental schemes”.
The principle of the scheme allows for motorists to neutralise the impact of their emissions by paying an additional 3ppl at an ATF ‘Carbon Neutral Pump’ and offsetting the carbon emissions created by their fuel burn. The scheme is uniquely impactful, as the price of offset goes towards projects that absorb harmful emissions or prevent them from being produced in the future, and to restorative environmental projects local to the point of offset.
This latter part of the work is not about directly counteracting harmful emissions, but about repairing the damage done to local environments, caused by human activity.
Mr Best continued: “We will still sell fuel at our regular low prices if our customers choose not to use the Drive Carbon Neutral pump. In addition, we continue to be the only Channel Island fuel supplier that complies with UK legislation that requires petrol and diesel to have a bio-fuel content of at least 5% and 7% respectively, which supports policy on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from road transport”.
