Jersey Alzheimer’s Association charity took the decision to change the name to Dementia Jersey, following discussions with their members and clients, with the aim being to ensure there was an understanding that the charity supports anyone affected by any of the diseases falling under the Dementia umbrella, not just Alzheimer’s.
1600 dementia sufferers live in Jersey
Dementia affects 50 million people worldwide and 1600 of which live in Jersey therefore it was important for the charity to be as open and transparent as possible to ensure those affected by Dementia know where to go for support, which starts with their brand.
Apart from the new name, the charity remains the same offering support to anyone affected by Dementia in any way, in Jersey. The office is still located at de Carteret House, Hilgrove Street in St Helier, and the telephone number is unchanged 01534 723519.
Whilst Covid restrictions have resulted in an adjustment to the charities services, they are still very much open for service providing activities including their sought-after Musical Memories, and support through many means including coffee & chat groups, available to all clients old and new.
The overall goal remains to spread awareness, provide much needed support and to make Jersey a truly Dementia friendly island.
Dementia Jersey have already started the year with a bang raising over £18,000 through the 50-mile challenge, and to follow the trend are providing a virtual kickstart to everyone’s wellbeing through their Detox for Dementia event, which is set to take place from the 15th of March to the 1st of April 2021.
The charity has worked with a variety of fantastic local businesses to host 12 events covering boxing, fitness, meditation, yoga & nutritional talks. Tickets cost just £39 with all proceeds going back into the charity to continue their valued service in Jersey.
Chris Renouf, Chairman of Dementia Jersey has said; “It felt like the appropriate time to make the changes following feedback from our clients and members, and what better way to help spread the word on the rename and spread awareness with our Detox for Dementia event. We are geared up to host a mixture of events throughout the year ranging from exercise activities to an Easter egg decoration competition, our popular Rally round for Dementia and Dare for Dementia Abseil events, and even a runway event (I bet that’s got you thinking!).
Please follow Dementia Jersey on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn to keep up to date on events.
If you are or anyone you know is affected by Dementia please do get in touch and we will support you in any way that we can.”
