Guernsey Dairy has beaten off competition from national household brands to win a prestigious Organic Dairy award.
Guernsey Dairy has been named the winner of The Soil Association’s ‘Best Everyday Dairy’ at the BOOM Awards for its Organic RSPCA Assured A2 Milk.
The BOOM Awards are the UK’s only organic awards and an annual celebration of best practice in this industry.
Les Fauconnaires Farm, under the care of Jim and Liz Naftel, is the island’s only organic farm and it supplies the Dairy with around 1,000 litres of organic milk every week.
Guernsey Dairy’s Quality and Compliance Manager Alex Tielles said: “This is an amazing achievement for everyone involved and we are extremely proud of Les Fauconnaires Farm. Jim and Liz work incredibly hard with our Guernsey Dairy team to make sure the very best product gets to our customers.
“I’m delighted to see the farmers and our team recognised for their hard work and commitment to organic farming, which puts a clear focus on animal welfare and land management.
“It is rare to see milk produced to such high standards using solely A2 cattle, and its recognition alongside major multi-national businesses shows that it is one of the very best on the market.”
Liz Naftel from Les Fauconnaires Farm said: “We are very proud to have won the award and it is wonderful for Guernsey to be recognised in this way. There was a good demand for locally-produced organic milk which we were happy to fill and we have been doing that for the last 23 years.”
Other BOOM award winners include big name brands such as Riverford Organic, Neal’s Yard and Ocado, while Guernsey Dairy finished ahead of the likes of Yeo Valley and Rachel’s Organic to take its prize.
The Soil Association is the UK’s leading organic certifier and its awards are held at a time of continued growth in the organic market, which this year reached a market value of £3.1 billion – its highest level yet.
Guernsey Dairy’s Organic RSPCA Assured A2 Milk adheres to Soil Association standards, which requires cows to be fed a wholesome diet that is free from artificial additives, chemicals and genetically modified ingredients.
