Henry (known as Harry) Gribbens has been named as winner of the 2025 Cavagnetto/Lions Club Culinary Apprentice of the Year Award.
Piero Cavagnetto owned and ran the restaurant Casa Cavagnetto on the west coast of Guernsey for 10 years in the 60s – 70s. Piero was an active and highly respected member of the Lions Club of Guernsey, and following his death, his family wished to create an award in his memory, connected to the hospitality industry in which he had worked for much of his life. TGI College was delighted to forge a partnership with the The Lions Club of Guernsey to present this annual award (a trophy and prize) to the culinary apprentice who has made the most progression and shows the most promise.
The award was presented by Piero’s sons Mario and Carlo at a reception held at Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts. Canapés were created by current culinary apprentices under the guidance of Chef Lecturer Rivelino Rodriguez.
Harry’s natural flair in the kitchen and his commitment to ongoing improvement were just two of the qualities cited as the reason he was selected. He is currently working at Alba’s in Market Square.
TGI College’s Head of Department, Hospitality & Catering Sally Warburton Ward said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Lions Club of Guernsey to be able to present this award each year and we’re very grateful to Mario and Carlo Cavagnetto for their ongoing support of our young apprentices.
“This is a great way to mark all of our Culinary Apprentices’ progression and success. A huge congratulations to Harry. I look forward to seeing how his career develops in the future.”
