Jersey’s independent Statistics Users Group (SUG) is looking to appoint three to seven new members.
You will help oversee the quality, relevance and integrity of Jersey’s public authority statistics. All statistics produced by or on behalf of a public authority fall within SUG’s remit and you would consider statistics on subjects as diverse as population, housing, health, education and social trends.
SUG is looking for people who have a good understanding of numbers and statistics, and who appreciate the value and importance of good quality information to inform the public and to support the development of public policy.
SUG Members are expected to be statistics users who are impartial, separate from the political process, reflecting a diversity of backgrounds, interests, expertise and organisations across all sectors of our economy and community. Experience in civic engagement, raising awareness about the importance of statistics and quality assurance is particularly welcomed.
SUG meets formally four times a year together with the Chief Statistician. Monthly informal working meetings are also held with guest speakers providing learning sessions in various areas of statistics and to review work in progress. The total time commitment expected is 8 to 12 hours per month. This is a voluntary position and appointments are made by the Minister for a term of three years.
The role profile can be found here. For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Gailina Liew at [email protected].
To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter to [email protected] before 5 pm, February 23rd 2023.
Interviews are scheduled to take place on March 7th and 8th 2023.
