In support of flexible working and prioritising employee wellbeing, Cortex Technologies, a local tech firm, is repeating its summertime four-day workweek.
In August, the company will operate from Monday to Thursday with the office closed on Fridays. Existing support processes and out-of-hours covers will be extended to ensure their clients experience no drop-in service.
This follows a successful trial in 2023, albeit with some refinements for 2024 based on lessons learned and team feedback.
Marc Beavan (pictured), co-founder of Cortex, said: “We’re all about experimenting with different ways of working like flexible hours and remote working. A four-day workweek makes sense for a lot of reasons. Originally, we wanted to give the team more time for personal projects or development but we quickly realised that work-life balance is just as important, so we also encourage them to soak up the sun and enjoy the Guernsey summer.”
Co-founder Matt Thornton added: “As a small company, we need to find innovative ways to differentiate ourselves from competitors in the market. We’re fiercely protective of our culture and values and this is a firm commitment to that. Moreover, we’ve had a busy year, and the rest of the year isn’t looking any quieter, so we’re all looking forward to a bit of extra time with our families and friends and taking a few moments to recharge.”
Importantly, employees will not experience any reduction in holiday entitlement or pay as a result of the shorter workweek.
